As many of you know, early detection of many cancers, before they have had a chance to spread, can quadruple your 5 year chance of survival. You may have seen recent news about advances in early cancer detection.
Summit Primary Care is very excited to share that we are offering a revolutionary multi-cancer early detection test for our patients. It’s called the Galleri Multi-Cancer Early-Detection Test* and it can detect more than 50 types of cancer by looking for signals in the blood that may be associated with cancer. If caught in its early stages, cancer treatment outcomes and survival rates may be improved.
Here are few benefits of the test:
• It detects many cancers that are not commonly screened for today, so you can get treated earlier. Realistically, we have screening protocols in place now for about 5 cancers.
• It can be incorporated into a routine visit through a simple blood draw.
If a cancer signal is found, the results point to where in the body the cancer is coming from to help us guide your next steps.
The Galleri Multi-Cancer Early-Detection Test is not yet FDA approved. However, it is already being used at respected institutions like the Cleveland Clinic, Ochsner Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The test has such tremendous diagnostic potential that I believe we need to start using this technology sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, because this test is not yet FDA approved, your health insurance company will not pay for it. SPC will be offering the test for $1000 for our existing patients. For a limited time, we will also offer the test to friends and family of existing patients for $1200. If you are considering this test for next year, Galleri may be FSA/HSA eligible. If eligible, pre-tax dollars in your flexible spending account (FSA) or health saving account (HSA) may be used for reimbursement for the Galleri test. Check with your FSA/HSA administrator to determine eligibility.
Please understand: This test will not tell us whether you are at RISK for certain cancers. The Galleri test can tell us whether you currently HAVE cancer, and hopefully, we will be catching that cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage. Choosing to have such a powerful diagnostic test may be a life changing decision and it should not be considered lightly. Any patient considering this test should have an appointment with me either in person or by phone and we will thoroughly review the details of testing beforehand. I want everyone who has this test to feel very confident in their decision. Results will take about 2 weeks to come back from the lab. If you are interested in having the Galleri test, please contact us by phone or email.
Sincerely, Dr. Keller and Heather
